Saving water 2022

Why bother saving water?

By using water wisely, you can make sure there is enough to go around for everyone. It can also help you save money on your water, sewerage, gas and electricity bills

How can I save water?

Small changes can make a big difference to the amount of water you use every day. Could you try something new this week?

1. Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth

This simple change can save you 9 litres of water every minute

2. Put full loads in your washing machine and dishwasher

By doing this, you’re using the minimum energy and water for the most clothes and dishes and cutting out unnecessary washes in-between

3. Put a jug of tap water in your fridge

Convenient, cold water whenever you want it, rather than wasting water while you wait for the tap to run cold.

4. Use a bowl to wash up

A running tap wastes more than 5 litres of water each minute. You only need to run most taps for 95 seconds to fill up a washing up bowl.

5. If you can, take a shower instead of a bath

A 5-minute shower uses about 40 litres of water. This is about half as much as a standard bath.
