We’re upgrading the door entry systems to make them more reliable

22 May 2025 - Home
We’ve started a programme of works to proactively replace or upgrade our older door entry systems over the next five years.

Some of our current door entry systems are harder to fix, as parts are difficult to obtain or no longer available.

That’s why we’re replacing older door entry systems with new, modern wireless systems that will mean fewer repair callouts and lower maintenance costs.

The new door entry systems will let residents use their smartphone to see who’s at the door. With a free app, they can let visitors in and get video alerts—even when they’re not at home.

It will still work for those who don’t want to use a smartphone. They’ll be able to answer and let people in, just without the video

Tania Emery, A2Dominion’s Building Safety Director, said: “Door entry systems have been a source of frustration for customers at a number of our buildings.

“Customers  have told us that when their door entry system stops working, it makes them feel unsafe, as anyone can get into the building without permission.

“Many of our older systems have become increasingly difficult to maintain, as replacement parts are either no longer available or much harder to source, which has resulted in repeated breakdowns, delays in repairs and high maintenance costs.

“Last year, our specialist team inspected around 1,400 door entry systems. They tested how well each system was working and looked at their overall condition. The findings from these have helped inform our planned maintenance programme.

“This means systems will now be upgraded and replaced proactively, helping to prevent failures before they happen. This will help us provide a more reliable and better experience for customers.”

What are the benefits?

The benefits of the new wireless door entry systems include:

·        Fewer parts to go wrong, so the system is more reliable and costs less to maintain

·        No wiring needed in your home or communal areas

·        Most issues can be fixed remotely, without needing a contractor to visit

·        Lost entry fobs can easily be cancelled and replaced
