Every mind matters - tips to help your mental health

Services

The last year has been difficult for many of us and it’s not surprising that life in lockdown may be impacting our mental health. There are lots of things that you can do to help yourself and there are various support networks that are available for you if you’re struggling with your mental health.

Every Mind Matters

We’ve put together a few tips for you that may help.

What can I do from home?

  • Take time to check how you’re feeling – put time aside to examine your current situation and consider how you really feel. Maybe talk it through with someone you trust.
  • Focus on the short term – the more we look into our future, the easier it is to get overwhelmed about things that have not happened. Try to focus on the day-to-day and on your present situation.
  • Be grateful for things that are working - when you feel like things aren’t going right, make a list of a few things you’re grateful for. It could be a relationship, favourite meal or a song you heard that morning.
  • Reframe your thoughts – it’s easy to get caught up in negative thoughts and feelings, which is understandable due to the uncertainty in everyday life. It can be helpful to step back, take a deep breath and think about the reason behind those thoughts and explore other ways of looking at the situation.
  • Have a routine – routine and structure can be a strong way to gain consistency to your day and reduce uncertainty. Make time to de-stress and wind down.
