Our supported housing scheme in Oxford, for those experiencing homelessness, has helped 20 people move on from the scheme between April and September this year with many now living independent lives.

Matilda House, which opened in 2019, provides short term housing for people with complex needs and a move-on programme focused on employment and training. It can support up to 37 people at any one time facing or at risk of homelessness.

Each customer has a dedicated support worker to help with health, employment and finances, and finding permanent housing, helping them to rebuild their lives.

From April to September this year, Matilda House generated £1.5m in social value* including:

£785,000 in improved health and wellbeing

  • £350,000 in preventing homelessness

  • £240,000 in helping people to manage their money

  • £135,000 in employment support

  • £52,000 in improving physical health

Dawn Wightman, Director of Customer and Communities at A2Dominion, said: “We’re proud of the ongoing work by our colleagues at Matilda House, whose dedication continues to transform the lives of people facing or at risk of homelessness in Oxford.

“Behind the £1.5m figure generated in social value is a real story of people who have been helped towards a brighter and stable life.”

*How we measure social value

We look at the whole journey for each person at Matilda House - from the moment they arrive at to the point they move on.

At the end of their support, we fill out a form showing the progress they’ve made. This includes things such as moving from temporary to secure accommodation, improvements in health and wellbeing, finding work or training, and other steps that help them live a stable, independent life.
