Your deposit – how is it kept safe and returned to you?

Paying your deposit

Before moving into your new home, you’ll need to pay a deposit if you are renting:

  • One of our private homes

  • Key worker accommodation

  • Student accommodation

Your deposit will never be more than the equivalent of 5 weeks’ rent.

How your deposit is protected

  • If you live in a private rented or key worker home, your deposit will be held in the Deposit Protection Scheme (DPS). DPS will send you a letter or email confirming they’ve received it and provide your unique deposit ID number.

  • If you live in one of our student properties, A2Dominion will hold your deposit.

Getting your deposit back

When you move out:

  • If your home is clean, in good repair, and your rent account balance is zero, you’ll receive your full deposit back.

  • We may deduct money from your deposit to:

We’ll discuss any deductions with you when you move out. Your deposit will be available within 10 days of moving out.

How to claim your deposit

  • Contact the Deposit Protection Scheme (DPS) directly. You don’t need your original letter to request your deposit back.

  • Tell DPS how you’d like the money paid to you.
