Liliana’s Pathway to Success: From financial Struggles to New Career Aspirations

Liliana, 45, from Spelthorne, secured a job with the help of our partnership with PurpleCV.

Liliana was facing significant challenges in finding suitable employment, including language barriers, limited digital skills and a lack of confidence.

Liliana contacted our Employment Team, as she urgently needed to find work to support her family. She was keen to hear about how our Pathways Programme could help her and quickly registered for support.

Through our Pathways Programme, we offer a free employment service for customers who are aged 16 and over. This includes one-on-one support for those who want to kick-start their career or get back into work. We also offer one-to-one mentoring to boost interview skills and provide training and employment opportunities.

When Liliana met Employment, Training and Project Lead, Yasmeen Ali, she discussed the challenges she faced. Refreshing her CV was a key area that Liliana and Yasmeen identified for support, so Yasmeen referred her on to our partner, PurpleCV.

PurpleCV worked with Liliana to ensure her achievements stood out. Together they added examples of Liliana’s skills and a summary statement which helps potential employers quickly see someone’s suitability for the role.

Liliana had a new-found confidence in applying for jobs after receiving support from PurpleCV, she said “PurpleCV helped me a lot with my confidence in finding a job. The CV they helped me with was really good - as soon as I gave it to the cleaning company I got accepted, they called me to start working straight away.”

Yasmeen also gave Liliana advice on job searching strategies and interview preparation, and soon after, Liliana secured a job with a cleaning company. This year, Liliana is starting on a new path as a Kitchen Assistant, driven by her passion for cooking Portuguese food.

Yasmeen said: “We’re here to support customers who are struggling to secure a job or looking for opportunities to expand on their existing skills. It’s often small changes that can make a big difference to someone’s confidence. Last year, we supported 96 customers on the Pathways programme with setting career goals, CV writing and interview skills. If you need support, please get in touch.”
