A2Dominion customer, Lyn Hutchison, who has volunteered at the Havelock Community Centre in Southall for the last 10 years, has launched a food hub to support local residents

The 70-year-old, who lives at the Toplocks Estate in Southall, knew some of the residents were struggling following rises to the cost of living.

To address this issue, she worked with our Community Investment Team and charity partner, The Felix Project, to launch a dedicated Food Hub.

The Food Hub, which is open to everyone to drop in and get what they need, has run from the community centre for 2 years.

The service has been extremely popular with good feedback from local residents on the difference it has made to them.

Lyn, who sets up the space to be ready for the surplus food during school holidays, also provides a listening ear and ongoing support to residents.

Her commitment and support is valued by everyone who visits the centre. The dedicated volunteer also gives her time to coordinate different activities and ensures the smooth running of the community centre.

Lyn said: “I feel passionately about providing opportunities for people to access food as me and my family have benefitted from food banks in the past. This service is crucial for people who could be experiencing difficulties in their personal circumstances.

“I love volunteering, it is a chance to give something back and help the community. I would encourage others to consider giving their time, it is a great opportunity to build on skills and make a difference.”

Dawn Wightman, A2Dominion’s Director of Homes and Communities, said: “Lyn is an inspiration, and I would like to thank her for her ongoing support and the volunteering she has done on a daily basis for the last 10 years.

“We know how valued Lyn is by the community and the support she has provided to help us run Havelock Community Centre is very much appreciated.

”The Havelock Community Centre, which has been running for 27 years, is a lifeline for local residents and their families, providing a safe, warm place to visit and take part in local activities and events.

“Our community centres are much-loved hubs we open across our neighbourhoods that give customers the opportunity to socialise, learn a new skill and have fun."
