New residential redevelopment in the works in Walton-on-Thames

Walton Court


A2Dominion in partnership with Crest Nicholson has submitted a planning application to Elmbridge Borough Council for the redevelopment of the former Birds Eye/Unliver headquarters in Walton on Thames.

The development proposals for Walton Court consist of eight residential buildings comprising 375 new homes, parking facilities and new commercial and public space. The buildings will be three to five storeys high, and will include both apartments and townhouses, with 25% affordable housing provision across the development. The office complex has been vacant for over a decade since Birds Eye/Unilever relocated.

A comprehensive programme of community consultation was conducted prior to submission of the planning application in March 2017. This included a public exhibition in December 2016 and a further public exhibition in April 2017. The feedback received through the consultation programme has informed the design development process.

Originally a listed building, the proposal is to develop a contemporary geometric look which is designed to reflect historic features of the original architecture, whilst retaining some of the original elements such as the listed bird sculpture. An internal courtyard and water features are also proposed as part of the new design, which will sit alongside improved community and landscaped areas.

“Our proposals, including two different design options, were met with enthusiasm from local people, with many acknowledging the residential development of the vacant site as a positive move.”

A decision on the scheme is due in the Summer.
