HomeKey is a service for tenants living in a rented property, who wish to transfer to a new home. This is known as a choice-based lettings scheme.
When you register with HomeKey, its website will automatically search its databases and match you to homes that suit your needs. You can also use the search facility to find and view a selection of homes across the south of England. You can then register your interest in, or place a bid on the property.
You can download a HomeKey application form here.
- How do I register for HomeKey?
If you are an A2Dominion tenant and would like to register for HomeKey, you will need to contact us for an application form.
As you complete the application form, make sure you complete the ‘disability’ and ‘medical issues’ sections if you have a serious illness or disability that is being made worse by your current housing situation.
Once your application is complete, send it to us. After we have processed your form, we will send you login details. You can then log into the HomeKey site and bid on properties.
- How many bedrooms will I be allowed?
The number of bedrooms you will be allocated will depend on the number of people in your household and their ages. One bedroom will be allocated for each of the following:
- a single adult aged 16 or over
- a couple
- two children of mixed or same sex, both aged under 10
- two children of the same sex, both aged under 16
- How do you decide my level of housing need?
The level of priority we give you is based upon your personal circumstances and the strength of your need to move. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis. For more information, please contact us.
- How do I bid for a property?
You will only be allowed to bid on properties where you meet the essential criteria identified on the advert.
When you bid on a home, you will be added to a list of customers who are interested in that home. The customer on the list who has registered with HomeKey the earliest is most likely to be offered the home.
If you need help using the HomeKey website please contact us.
- Will I be allowed to keep a pet in the property?
Some of our properties will allow pets. This will be identified on the advert. Please contact us if you are unsure.
- How long will properties be advertised for?
Each property will be advertised for seven days and the advertising cycle could start and end on any day of the week. For example, a property advertised on a Wednesday will close the following Tuesday.
- How will I know if my bid has been successful?
We will look at the shortlist of all the applicants who have bid on a property and prioritise the list based on need. We will contact you to view the property when you reach the top of this shortlist. If you refuse the property, we will move down the shortlist until somebody accepts the property.
You can check the status of your bids at any time by logging into HomeKey and accessing the ‘My bids’ section.
